In 1846 George Swan Nottage (later to become Alderman and The Right Honourable) founded the London Stereoscopic Company (LSC), promoting the inventions of Scottish scientist Sir David Brewster (11 Dec 1781 - 10 Feb 1868) and others. During 1884 he was bestowed the prestigious title of The Lord Mayor of the City of London. Nottage, who married Christiana in 1851, was an author whose well known writings included The Shakespearean Diary that he produced under the initials GSN as well as many amusing and trenchant sketches of character under the nom de plume of Persuis Junior. At the Great International Exhibition of 1862 the company played a leading roll and their premises at 108/110 and at 118 Regents Street in London's West End and also at 54 Cheapside in the City became known throughout the world. On the 22nd March 1878 an exclusive Agreement was signed with Thomas Edison that expanded the business by commercially producing, as sole licensee, the Phonograph machine that was to be purchased by millions throughout the world. The company then became known as the London Stereoscopic and Phonographic Company. Meanwhile the world's rulers and their Ambassadors, who produced clients such as QUEEN VICTORIA, her son, who later became KING EDWARD VII, Gladstone, Charles Dickens, Henry Irving and Disraeli, to name just a few, made regular referrals to the company's growing services. As part of their marketing and promotional operations, the company was contracted by Dickens to produce the illustrations for many of his works, while in 1866 Dickens also commissioned the company's photographic services to produce a series of studies of himself. The Right Hon. George Swan Nottage died after a short illness on the 11th April 1885 in the 63rd year of his life while still in office as Lord Mayor of the City of London. He left a wife, son and daughter and his magnificent tomb is to be found in the crypt of London's St. Paul's Cathedral. Meanwhile business Achievement Medals continued to be awarded, including in London, Paris, Dublin, Vienna, Berlin, New York, Philadelphia, Sydney and Melbourne. On the 21st April 1933, in order to reflect that it had grown into a multi-business conglomerate serving businesses throughout the world, the company changed its trading title to reflect four divisions. Miles & Kaye, Miles & Kaye Artists (Film and Wireless), Miles & Kaye Recordings and Miles & Kaye Publishers who were also owners and publishers of Fifteen! (The Great American Mystery game). In May 1937 Miles & Kaye had the honour of being exclusively appointed to officially record the events of the Coronation State Luncheon for KING GEORGE V1 with Queen Elizabeth held in the Guildhall of the City of London. During September 1940 the company premises at 54 Cheapside, situated in the 'Wall Street' of the City of London, was destroyed by enemy action. (picture in our images gallery .. link below). New premises were quickly found at 100 Southampton Row. It was at these expansive
premises that in 1962 our present principal, Roy W. Norman, negotiated
an acquisition of the Miles & Kaye group of companies. The previous
year had seen the establishment of Timefame that had quickly become
both a high profile corporate litigation investigation operation and
a counter commercial espionage consultancy for blue chip corporate and
well known private clients as well as attorneys . The acquisition of
Miles & Kaye artists resulted in a new division to provide Timefame
consultancy investigative services to well-known artists and companies
associated with showbiz - the film and stage world. The Miles and Kaye
companies were amalgamated into Timefame and business has since continued
under similar Timefame or Timefame LSC International titles with major
corporations from around the world, government bodies and individuals,
appointing Timefame when they are seeking that something extra from
their instructions. The consultancy services offered by Roy W Norman have always been upon a 'quality not quantity' basis, with clients receiving personal attention. In more recent years, to allow his decades of experience to be taken advantage of, certain 'lay' personal clients have been accepted, particularly if they have shown special circumstances (ie the interests of a minor are involved). |
